Seahawks down Vikings to boost play-off hopes

Seattle improved to 8-5 for the season.

The Seattle Seahawks gave their play-off hopes a huge boost with a 21-7 win over NFC rivals the Minnesota Vikings.

Seattle’s fourth win in a row improved their record to 8-5 for the season and they are currently sitting in fifth spot in the NFC play-off picture with three games remaining.

The Vikings, meanwhile, saw their own chances of securing a play-off wild card spot take a knock as they slipped to 6-6-1 for the season.

The match-up – the first time the teams have met since the 2016 post-season – went 57 minutes without a touchdown, before the Seahawks scored two in quick succession to bring the game alive.

Running back Chris Carson battered his way over from close range for the game’s first touchdown with 2:53 left, giving the Seahawks a 12-point lead, before Justin Coleman returned a fumble for another score just 18 seconds later.

Minnesota, who were held to just 276 yards and 199 passing yards, scored with 1:10 remaining to prevent Seattle’s first shutout since 2015.
