Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis-Hill has admitted that she is lacking consistency in the javelin after failing to medal in the final at the British Athletics Championships in Birmingham on Sunday.
The 29-year-old, who won bronze in the 100m hurdles yesterday, could only muster a best throw of 39.84 metres, which left her 12th in the field.
After the result, Ennis-Hill, who returned to action earlier this year following a two-year absence, expressed her disappointment, but insisted that she has "enjoyed" competing at the Alexander Stadium.
How did you find it out there?
"It was really frustrating. It was disappointing not to throw over 40 metres and I was just lacking a bit today. I think it's just consistency more than anything. It's a very technical event, the javelin. I just need to get that consistency back.
How have you found the weekend overall?
"I've really enjoyed it. It's been great - I really enjoyed running yesterday in the hurdles. There's kind of been highs and lows - good day yesterday, not so well today. Hopefully I can go away and get some good training in."
Do you feel like you have something to build on now?
"Yeah, I would have loved to have thrown a bit further today, that would have been ideal. I kind of know where I am and can go away and put some more work in."
You've not been surprised by how you've performed here? You're not surprised that you struggled a bit today?
"Well, I would have liked to have thrown further and I know I'm capable of throwing further. I put it down to one of those days today. I know it's within me, but I have to make sure I'm consistent. I need to get everything technical where it needs to be so I can come out and compete."
