Carlos Quipo Pilataxi holds off Jose de la Nieve Linares

Ecuador's Carlos Quipo Pilataxi overcomes Jose de la Nieve Linares of Spain to book his place in the last 16 of the light flyweight class.

Ecuador's Carlos Quipo Pilataxi has beaten Jose de la Nieve Linares of Spain to reach the last 16 of the light flyweight class.

An evenly-matched first round saw Pilataxi emerge with a one-point cushion and he looked to increase his advantage in the second with a couple of decent rights.

However, the Ecuadorian had to be warned on a few occasions for slapping.

Pilataxi led by three as the bout neared its conclusion and Linares was forced to attack. The Spaniard upped his work-rate in the final round, but was matched by Pilataxi, who delivered some thudding blows to the body.

The judges scored the bout 14-11 to Pilataxi.
