Australia's Grace Brown takes the gold medal in the women's time trial at the Commonwealth Games, as Anna Henderson wins silver for England.

Australia's Grace Brown lived up to her favourites tag to take the gold medal in the women's time trial at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The 30-year-old had to accept fourth in the time trial at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and came into the Birmingham Games after missing the end of the 2021 season due to shoulder surgery.

Brown - who was the last to set off on Thursday morning - did not get off the perfect opening at the start of the course but soon found her stride to lead comfortably in the first two sections.

England's Anna Henderson had set off eight minutes earlier than Brown and briefly sat on the wooden throne after finishing with 40:38.55 on the clock, usurping Rebecca Storrie of the Isle of Man (41:53.49) in the process.

Henderson navigated the corners well in front of the Birmingham crowd, but Brown came storming down the home straight to beat her English compatriot by 33.35 seconds to win the title.

New Zealand's Georgia Williams did enough for bronze with 41:25.27, while Brown's fellow Australian Georgia Baker placed fourth after finishing in a time of 41:44.85.

Wales' Elynor Backstedt did enough to make it into the top 10, placing eighth with a time of 42:15.16, and England duo Joscelin Lowden and Abi Smith placed 12th and 18th respectively.
