Great Britain's Bethany Shriever scoops the overall bronze medal at the BMX World Championships after finishing eighth in the final stage in Colombia.

Great Britain's Bethany Shriever consigned an underwhelming final stage at the BMX World Cup to history as she placed third overall to take home the bronze medal.

The Tokyo 2020 gold medallist collected 174 points on the eighth stage of the World Cup in Bogota, Colombia, giving her a total of 2181 after the four-month event.

After topping the rankings on stage five with 500 points, Shriever failed to finish higher than seventh in the final three stages, but her tally was enough for a memorable bronze medal.

The Netherlands' Laura Smulders stormed to the World Cup title with a total of 3608, as Switzerland's Zoe Claessens collected 2858 to scoop the silver medal.

Mariana Pajon Londono of Colombia - who finished just outside the podium spots in fourth with 1640 - ended on a high with victory in stage eight in her homeland.

Shriever's World Cup bronze adds to her Olympic title from the women's BMX racing at the Tokyo Games, as well as a gold medal at the 2021 World Championships.

The Brit took home the bronze after fellow Olympic medallist Kye Whyte finished fourth overall in the men's tournament, dropping out of the top three after adding just 135 points to his total in stage eight.
