In-form Luke Humphries wins Grand Slam of Darts

Luke Humphries continues his impressive form during 2023 by winning the Grand Slam of Darts, beating Rob Cross in the final in Wolverhampton.

Luke Humphries has won his second major in the space of less than two months by beating Rob Cross in the Grand Slam of Darts final.

The 28-year-old, who has recently broken into the top four of the PDC Order of Merit, made his breakthrough in televised tournaments by prevailing in last month's World Grand Prix.

Humphries has now added to his collection with a 16-8 victory over Cross, sealing a deserved triumph having been the best player throughout the competition.

Although the opening four legs were shared, Humphries put on a five-leg surge to establish a 7-2 advantage, and there was no way back for his opponent.

That soon became 10-3 as Cross struggled to keep pace in a high-quality final, with the pair ending with 104.69 and 103.61 averages respectively.

Cross was restricted to just 20 attempts at a double over 24 legs, yet he was able to land a 170 finish to put further respectability on his performance.

However, Humphries was majestic on his doubles, posting a 59% rate, and that was complemented by eight maximums as he sealed the win with a 91 finish.

Humphries now sits clear of Gerwyn Price in the top four, but he still trails Michael van Gerwen by almost £127,000 in his bid to move higher.

Meanwhile, Cross is now back in the top eight after reaching his first televised ranking final since last year's Players Championship finals.
