Former Coronation Street star Ellie Leach reportedly signs up to take part in this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

Ellie Leach has reportedly signed up to take part in this year's edition of Strictly Come Dancing, months after she departed Coronation Street.

The 22-year-old actress had played Faye Windass on the ITV soap since 2011 but the character was seen leaving the cobbles in April to start a new life with her ex and daughter in Slough.

In real life, Leach recently split from her model boyfriend Reagan Pettman after five years together and The Sun says that the major changes in her life have led to her accepting an offer to compete on Strictly.

"It's going to take some adjusting to, but Strictly is part of opening up a new chapter for Ellie," a source told the newspaper.

"The dance contest will also give her a chance to get glammed up in a way which she rarely did on the cobbles of Weatherfield as Faye was a comparatively frumpy character.

"The only time Ellie was seen dressed to the nines was when she was walking the red carpet at events as herself."

Other celebs linked with the new series of Strictly - due to begin on BBC One in September - include broadcasting legend Angela Rippon, ex-Emmerdale star Adam Thomas, '80s pop star Shakin' Stevens and This Morning presenter Josie Gibson.
