Jack Carroll - known for his appearance on Britain's Got Talent - joins the cast of Coronation Street.

Former Britain's Got Talent star Jack Carroll has joined the cast of Coronation Street playing a member of the Connor family.

The 25-year-old actor and comedian appeared on the ITV variety show when he was aged just 14, making it through to the finals and finishing in second place.

On Corrie, Carroll, who has cerebral palsy, will play Bobby - the son of murderer Rob Donovan and the nephew of Carla Barlow (Alison King).

Rob is currently serving life in prison for murdering Tina McIntyre and was unaware of Bobby's existence until recently, and the youngster's arrival on the cobbles after falling out with his mum will also come as a shock to Carla.

Bobby is described as "a livewire chip off the old block, with the gift of the gab and an eye for the ladies" and will be aiming to set down permanent roots in Weatherfield.

"I'm delighted and honoured to be playing a part in the history of the cultural institution that is Coronation Street," said Carroll.

"I hope Bobby brings viewers a lot of laughs in the vein of some of the street's classic comedy characters."

Carroll started filming this week and will appear on screen for the first time this Christmas.
