Tina O'Brien will reportedly stay on Coronation Street as Sarah Platt for at least another year.

Tina O'Brien has reportedly penned a new contract to extend her stay on Coronation Street as Sarah Platt for at least another year.

Later this year the 40-year-old will mark 25 years playing Sarah, having joined the soap in October 1999 to handle the character''s teen pregnancy storyline - a hugely controversial issue at the time.

Sarah still remains at the forefront of the action on the cobbles and is currently in the middle of a divorce from husband Adam (Sam Robertson) after starting a relationship with bad boy Damon (Ciaran Griffiths).

Recently O'Brien's on-screen relatives Helen Worth (Gail) and Sue Nicholls (Audrey) signed new 12-month contracts and The Sun says that she has now followed in their footsteps.

"Tina is delighted by the deal, she adores playing Sarah and is a favourite with fans," a source told the newspaper.

"She sees Coronation Street as her future and her castmates are family to her. She's dedicated to the role and looking forward to getting her teeth into some sexy storylines around Sarah's love life."

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
