Derek Draper, husband of GMB's Kate Garraway, is reportedly back in hospital for an essential operation.

Kate Garraway's husband Derek Draper has reportedly returned to hospital for an essential operation.

The 55-year-old caught coronavirus in March 2020 and spent almost a year in hospital - much of it in a coma - as the disease left him with serious damage to his internal organs.

Draper has since been receiving around-the-clock care at the family home in London, but The Sun says that he has now been forced back to hospital for surgery.

"This is another hammer blow for poor Derek," a source told the newspaper.

"He is giving the fight against covid his absolute all, but his kidneys have suffered some pretty serious damage.

"Doctors explained there was no alternative but to operate. Of course Kate and the family are worried but she's been reassured the procedure itself is routine.

"Everyone has everything crossed, and Kate is being her usual stoic self and keeping everything running, business as usual, on the home front."

Garraway has taken time off from presenting Good Morning Britain and Smooth Radio while Draper recovers.
