Susanna Reid could be joined by a female permanent co-host on Good Morning Britain, according to a report.

ITV is reportedly considering giving Susanna Reid a female permanent co-host on Good Morning Britain later this year.

The breakfast show is currently experimenting with various presenting lineups following the exit of Piers Morgan in March amid the fallout of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

In recent weeks, Charlotte Hawkins, Ranvir Singh and Kate Garraway have appeared alongside Reid, as well as guests such as Adil Ray, Alastair Campbell and Richard Madeley, but ITV is expected to name a permanent co-host for Reid in September.

According to The Sun, producers are now leaning towards making an internal appointment, with Singh, Garraway and Hawkins the frontrunners.

"It is very possible that we will have two women fronting the show," a source told the newspaper.

"Susanna will take the lead, but the job of her co-host is up for grabs, and it will come down to who is most popular with viewers.

"Richard and Charlotte both gave powerhouse performances last week, so we will be seeing a lot more of them in the coming weeks. But Ranvir and Kate will be back too, as will Alastair Campbell and Bill Turnbull.

"The attitude behind the scenes is there is no rush to find a replacement for Piers this year. The bosses want to make the right choice. They want to give lots of people a chance and, as time goes on, focus more on the most popular hosts.

"The feeling is if Piers doesn't come back, it'd be unfair to draft in a replacement straight away, both on Piers and his replacement."

GMB's ratings have taken a nosedive in the wake of Morgan's departure and last week hit a low of just 450,000 viewers.
