Anne Charleston is to reportedly reprise her role as Madge Bishop for the final episode of Neighbours.

The iconic character of Madge Bishop is expected to feature in the final episode of Neighbours when it airs later this week on Channel 5.

The Aussie soap is coming to an end after 37 years with a host of former stars returning for its swansong, including Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Delta Goodrem, Guy Pearce, Natalie Imbruglia and Margot Robbie.

The final, hour-long episode will air on Channel 5 on Friday - and according to The Sun, it will feature a cameo from Anne Charleston as Madge, who died in emotional scenes in 2001.

The wife of fellow legend Harold Bishop (Ian Smith) subsequently appeared to him as a vision in 2015 and looks set to make a similar appearance before the credits roll for the last time.

"There was no way that someone as iconic and legendary as Madge wasn't going to be seen in the soap's final ever episode," a source told the newspaper.

"It was just about how they could have her back when her death was such a huge part of the show's history. It's very clever.

"The fans are going to get goosebumps - it's magical."

The final episode of Neighbours airs at 9pm on Channel 5 on Friday.
