Anne Heche dies after her life support is withdrawn in hospital, one week on from her involvement in an horrific car crash.

Anne Heche has died at the age of 53, one week on from an horrific car crash in Los Angeles which left her in a coma.

The actress had been fighting for her life in hospital following the incident, which saw her crash her car at high speed into a residential home, sending the building and her car up in flames.

Heche has now officially been declared brain dead, which meets the legal definition of death in California, although her body remains on life support as doctors determine which of her organs - if any - are suitable for donation.

A representative for her family said: "We have lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend.

"Anne will be deeply missed but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work, and her passionate advocacy.

"Her bravery for always standing in her truth, spreading her message of love and acceptance, will continue to have a lasting impact."

Heche is survived by her 20-year-old son and 13-year-old son.
