Catfish Gemma was shown the door on tonight's episode of The Circle - but she did not go peacefully.

As the influencers, Manrika and Andy made the joint decision to block Gemma, aka 47-year-old James - better known to some viewers as Hunter from the '90s TV show Gladiators.

"I've played it as well as I could," said James, who had been masquerading as an NHS nurse, when he heard the news.

James then decided to meet face-to-face with Manrika, who initially appeared aghast that Nurse Gemma was actually a 6ft 4in man.

"I was here to raise some money for the NHS," he told her, "but I obviously didn't want to come in here as myself because people of a certain age would know who I am, so I wanted to come in here and be anonymous."

Having heard James's explanation, Manrika appeared to soften to James - but the mood changed when she revealed that she was responsible for drawing the picture of Gemma as a snake.

"I thought it was you because you've got quite a potty mouth," he said. "It said on it 'full of shit' and I instantly thought of you, because I thought 'who else would write that?'

"You could have owned up to it rather than be a coward... so you're full of shit yourself."

Manrika apologised but James was unimpressed that she had not come clean sooner, telling her: "I thought we were a little girl gang... so you were a good liar. Bravo... you seemed genuine but you've obviously pulled the wool over my eyes."

"Grow up, nice to meet you anyway," he added, before getting up and leaving her apartment.

The Circle continues Thursday night at 10pm on Channel 4.
