Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny insists that manager Arsene Wenger is not solely to blame for the club's current poor run of form.

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny has insisted that under-fire manager Arsene Wenger is not solely to blame for the team's current poor form.

The Gunners slumped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium this afternoon, their fourth consecutive loss across all competitions and a result which leaves them 13 points adrift of the Champions League places.

The current run represents Arsenal's worst form since 2002, but Koscielny called for unity to help them through the difficult spell despite appeals for Wenger to step down once again reaching fever pitch.

"As a player, we have responsibility on the pitch and need to be together. It is difficult to say it's his fault or our fault," Koscielny is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"The boss is here to give his best for the club. He's been here for 20 years so he's always loved this club.

"We need to stay united; it's a bad period but we need everyone who likes this club - players, fans and staff - to be together and to fight to be as high as we can."

Arsenal's next match sees them take on AC Milan at San Siro in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.
