Antoine Griezmann named Euro 2016 Player of the Tournament

France forward Antoine Griezmann is named the Player of the Tournament at Euro 2016 having scored six goals and assisted two more to help the hosts to the final.

France attacker Antoine Griezmann has been named the Player of the Tournament at Euro 2016.

The 25-year-old finished the competition with six goals and two assists, winning the Golden Boot and directly contributing to more goals than any other player.

The Atletico Madrid man became just the second player to score more than five goals at a single European Championship finals, following in the footsteps of compatriot Michel Platini, who scored nine at Euro 1984.

Griezmann's six-goal tally was twice as many as any other player managed in the tournament, with two of those coming in the semi-final victory over Germany.

France ultimately fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Portugal in the final, but Griezmann's performances throughout the campaign led to him being named the tournament's best player by a panel of 13 UEFA technical observers.

"Antoine Griezmann was a threat in every game he played. He works hard for his team and possesses technique, vision and quality finishing. The technical observers were in unanimous agreement that he was the tournament's outstanding player," UEFA chief technical officer Ioan Lupescu said in a statement.

Portugal's Renato Sanches was named the Young Player of the Tournament.
