Ronald Koeman reveals Barcelona clause in Netherlands contract

Ronald Koeman confirms that there is a clause in his contract with the Netherlands national team that precludes him from taking the Barcelona job until after Euro 2020.

Ronald Koeman has confirmed that there is a clause in his contract with the Netherlands national team that precludes him from taking the Barcelona job until after Euro 2020.

The Dutchman has been tipped to take over from the unpopular Ernesto Valverde, whose Barcelona team have already lost on three occasions this season.

Koeman, who enjoyed a successful spell at Camp Nou as a player, has played an important role in the resurrection of a Netherlands side that is currently top of its qualification group for Euro 2020.

Speaking on the subject of taking over at Barcelona one day, Koeman told Fox Sports: "When I joined the Dutch national team they've asked me whether or not to share the info with everyone, but I don't mind a little white lie once in a while.

"The clause only involves Barcelona and it's only valid for a moment after the Euro 2020. I'm not leaving now. That's 100% sure."

The Netherlands famously failed to qualify for Euro 2016 or the 2018 World Cup, adding extra significance for the turnaround enacted under Koeman.
