FA Cup roundup: Kidderminster Harriers, Grimsby Town cause shocks in round two

Sports Mole rounds up Saturday's FA Cup action that included wins over League Two opposition for Conference sides Kidderminster Harriers and Grimsby Town.

Conference duo Kidderminster Harriers and Grimsby Town progressed to the third round of the FA Cup at the expense of League Two opposition on Saturday.

Kidderminster thrashed Newport County 4-2 at Aggborough, where Michael Gash and Callum Gittings netted braces.

Meanwhile, second-half strikes from Shaun Pearson and Patrick McLaughlin gave Grimsby a 2-0 home win over Northampton Town.

However, the cup dream died for four non-league sides, as Brackley Town, Dover Athletic, Welling United and Stourbridge were all beaten.

Brackley, who were making their first appearance in round two, lost a five-goal thriller at Macclesfield Town.

Ben Reeves scored the winner as MK Dons edged past Dover, while Welling went down 3-1 at Home Park, where Plymouth Argyle scored three goals in the opening 21 minutes.

In Hertfordshire, Francois Zoko, Lucas Akins, Luke Freeman and Filipe Morais were on target as Stevenage breezed past Stourbridge 4-0 at the Lamex Stadium.

Elsewhere, Carlisle United ensured that Cumbria will have representation in round three by beating managerless Brentford 3-2 at Brunton Park.

Southend United came from behind to triumph 3-1 at Chesterfield, while Leyton Orient beat Walsall 1-0 thanks to Dean Cox's 10th goal of the season.

Britt Assombalonga bagged a hat-trick as Peterborough United smashed five goals past a hapless Tranmere Rovers side at London Road.

Rochdale and Preston North End won at Rotherham United and Wycombe Wanderers respectively.

Burton Albion left it to secure a replay, as Billy Kee netted a stoppage-time equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town.

Bristol Rovers and Crawley Town must go again too after playing out a 0-0 at the Memorial Ground.

The games involving Hartlepool United, Coventry City, Oldham Athletic and Mansfield Town also ended level.

Saturday's FA Cup results in full: Bristol Rovers 0-0 Crawley, Carlisle 3-2 Brentford, Chesterfield 1-3 Southend, Fleetwood Town 1-1 Burton Albion, Grimsby Town 2-0 Northampton, Hartlepool 1-1 Coventry, Kidderminster Harriers 4-2 Newport County, Leyton Orient 1-0 Walsall, Macclesfield 3-2 Brackley Town, MK Dons 1-0 Dover Athletic, Oldham 1-1 Mansfield, Peterborough 5-0 Tranmere, Plymouth 3-1 Welling United, Rotherham 1-2 Rochdale, Stevenage 4-0 Stourbridge, Wycombe 0-1 Preston
