How Chelsea could line up with Bayer Leverkusen forward Kai Havertz

As speculation mounts over a possible move to Chelsea for Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz, Sports Mole looks at how the Blues could line up in 2020-21.

Chelsea are reportedly firmly in the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen forward Kai Havertz in the summer transfer window.

The Blues have already brought in Ajax attacker Hakim Ziyech for £38m ahead of next season, while Timo Werner is rumoured to be on the verge of joining from RB Leipzig.

However, that has not stopped speculation mounting over a possible move to Stamford Bridge for Havertz, who has 11 goals and five assists in the Bundesliga this term.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the Blues could line up with Havertz in their ranks.

How CHE could line up with KH

Havertz has thrived through the middle for Leverkusen this term, whether in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3.

Chelsea have the personnel to use both of those formations, but Frank Lampard will likely want to use the former in order to cram in an extra attacking player.

Christian Pulisic has showed promising signs in his debut campaign in West London and should thrive with more time, while Callum Hudson-Odoi will be hoping that his injury issues are behind him.

Lampard will also be looking to shoehorn Ziyech into the side, likely just off Havertz should the Germany international indeed sign in the coming weeks.

A 4-3-3 would also work, with two of Hudson-Odoi, Ziyech and Pulisic playing either side of Havertz, who would very much be the main man in attack.

That would free up a gap for Billy Gilmour to join Mateo Kovacic and N'Golo Kante in holding midfield, though for now it is the latter two who hold possession of those spots.

Marcos Alonso's spot at left-back is also in jeopardy, with Chelsea believed to be eyeing up a record move for Leicester City's Ben Chilwell.
