Outgoing Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness expects the club to revive their interest in Manchester City winger Leroy Sane during the January transfer window.

Outgoing Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has confirmed that he expects the club to revive their interest in Manchester City winger Leroy Sane when the transfer window reopens in January.

The German champions publicly declared their interest in Sane during the summer window having identified the 23-year-old as an ideal replacement for departing stalwarts Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

However, City's asking price of over £100m was more than Bayern were prepared to pay before an ACL injury suffered during the Community Shield ended any chance of the Germany international leaving the Etihad Stadium before the start of the season.

Sane continues to be locked in contract talks with the Premier League champions, though, and Hoeness, who will stand down in November as Bayern hold fresh elections, believes that there will be a renewed push from the Bavarian giants under the new hierarchy.

"We were very much interested. We had discussions with him, but his big accident, awful injury - we could not go on with that," he told the Planet Futbol podcast.

"Therefore, we have to wait now [and see] how his recovery goes on. I think the new leaders will have to sit down in January or February [and decide] what's going on with that."

Sane's current Man City contract expires in the summer of 2021.
