Aston Villa's memorable 7-2 victory over champions Liverpool is voted as the Premier League Game of the Season in Sports Mole's annual Reader Awards.

Aston Villa's incredible 7-2 victory over Liverpool in October has been voted as the Premier League Game of the Season in the annual Sports Mole Reader Awards.

Villa ran riot against the defending champions, with their seven-goal showing not even flattering them and Liverpool arguably fortunate that the score did not run into double figures.

Even before their defensive injury issues struck, the Reds looked all at sea as they were torn apart time and time again, with Ollie Watkins stealing the show by scoring a perfect first-half hat-trick.

The scoreline - one of the most remarkable in Premier League history - was a clear winner in the end-of-season awards, earning 37% of the vote despite a campaign full of eye-catching scorelines.

Liverpool were also involved in its closest challenger, with their opening-day 4-3 win over Leeds United - during which Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick - coming in second with 15%.

Tottenham Hotspur's 6-1 hammering of Manchester United at Old Trafford finished third with 11% of the votes, while Man United's own six-goal showing - against old rivals Leeds United in December - earned 7.5%.
