Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand tips new signing Bruno Fernandes to get the best out of Paul Pogba at Old Trafford.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has tipped new signing Bruno Fernandes to get the best out of Paul Pogba at Old Trafford.

Fernandes finally ended one of the longest-running transfer sagas of recent years on Thursday when he put pen to paper with United in a deal which could rise to £68.7m.

The Portugal international will be set to link up with Pogba once the latter returns from injury, and Ferdinand is excited to see the pair combine despite ongoing speculation regarding Pogba's long-term future.

"Bruno Fernandes has signed for Manchester United, are we happy? Yes, we are, what does it mean? It means goals, it means creativity, it means vision, it means assists, it means chances created, that's what he brings to the table," Ferdinand told his YouTube channel.

"It's a man who actually beat Frank Lampard's record from midfield in terms of goalscoring. I think it can only enhance someone like [Pogba]. Someone who has got something to play for, by the way. This summer is the Euros, and he's going to want to be a part of this French team that are probably the favourites.

"He will want to be playing there, I know the type of guy he is. He's a competitor, he's a winner, and we want to see that in a Man Utd shirt. He will have that appetite to perform for Man Utd, even if he's using that to get into the French team, Man Utd have to actually take that and take it on board.

"The Man Utd midfield of [Scott] McTominay, Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, that's got a nice ring to it."

Like Pogba, McTominay is also currently sidelined through injury, but Fernandes is in line to make his debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
