Championship leader Max Verstappen claims pole for Sunday's Dutch Grand Prix by the smallest margin of the season.

Championship leader Max Verstappen has claimed pole position for Sunday's Dutch Grand Prix.

Possessing a 93-point lead in the Drivers' Standings, Verstappen is in total control as he bids to retain his world title.

However, the Dutchman is eager to win his home race for the second year in a row, and he has taken the ideal step to finishing at the top of the podium.

Verstappen's final lap was just 0.021 seconds quicker than Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, the smallest margin of the season.

Leclerc's teammate Carlos Sainz Jr will start in third, despite being less than a tenth of a second slower than Verstappen, while Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton joins the Spaniard on the second row of the grid.

Despite spinning on the final corner of his last flying lap, Sergio Perez qualified in fifth fastest ahead of George Russell.

Lando Norris, Mick Schumacher and Yuki Tsunoda were seventh, eighth and ninth respectively with Lance Stroll in 10th having been unable to set a time in Q3.
