Sheffield Steelers captain Jonathan Phillips out for three weeks

Sheffield Steelers captain Jonathan Phillips is expected to be sidelined for three weeks after having his appendix removed.

Sheffield Steelers have announced that their captain Jonathan Phillips is expected to be out of action for three weeks after having his appendix removed.

Phillips underwent surgery on Sunday morning after being taken to hospital the day before following blood tests.

Head coach Gerad Adams said: "We were of course concerned for Jonathan and are delighted that he has had the operation and returned home.

"We will of course ensure he has the best medical treatment possible. I hope to see him back on the ice as soon as possible but will leave that to the club's medical team. They will look after him and nurse back in due course."

Phillips is recovering at his home following yesterday's operation.
