Pineau De Re wins 2014 Grand National

Pineau De Re wins the 2014 Grand National.

Leighton Aspell rode Pineau De Re to a five-lengths victory in the 2014 Grand National this afternoon.

The Dr Richard Newland-trained horse came out on top at Aintree, with Balthazar King and Double Seven taking second and third spot respectively.

Following a false start, the race eventually got underway with a number of horses falling, leaving Across The Bay to lead the early standings.

The Donald McCain-trained horse was taken out after fence 13, however, exiting the race along with favourite Teaforthree, who fell at 'The Chair'.

Shakalakaboomboom, backed by many ahead of the 167th Grand National, pulled up as Rocky Creek and Mr Moonshine jousted for the lead.

Pineau De Re grew into the race, though, eventually taking the lead and showing the stamina to cross the line in first place.
