Katherine Grainger, Victoria Thornley through to semi-finals

Four-time Olympic champion Katherine Grainger and Victoria Thornley make it out of their women's doubles sculls heat, along with Lithuania.

Olympic champion Katherine Grainger is on course for more success at the Games after making it through to the semi-final stage of the women's doubles sculls at Rio 2016 with partner Victoria Thornley.

Great Britain's Thornley and Grainger, the latter of whom won the event with Anna Watkins four years ago in London, finished second in their heat on Saturday afternoon to advance into the next stage.

Lithuania's Donata Vistartaite and Milda Valciukaite were able to overhaul the British duo to take top spot, with Denmark, France and Germany missing out in heat one.

Grainger is aiming for a fifth Olympic medal in total, while Thornley is seeking a first at the quadrennial competition.
