Record-breaking Luke Greenbank storms to 200m backstroke gold for Great Britain

Luke Greenbank sets a world junior record time of 1:56.89 on his way to securing a second European Games gold medal in the men's 200m backstroke.

Great Britain's Luke Greenbank has won a second European Games gold medal by leading the way in the men's 200m backstroke final this afternoon.

The 17-year-old, who also came out on top in the 100m event earlier this week, stormed to victory in a time of 1:56.89.

Having left the chasing pack in his wake, pushing on to break his own Games record set in qualifying, Greenbank could celebrate winning Team GB's 15th gold of Baku 2015.

There was no such success for British compatriot Joe Hulme, however, who finished down in fifth place at the Aquatics Centre.

Mikita Tsmyh of Belarus was the best of the rest, finishing 2.57 seconds behind the winner to take second place, while bronze went to Russian Federation's Roman Laris.

Greenbank's time of 1:56.89 is also a world junior record in the 200m backstroke event.
