Taekwondo champion Gwladys Epangue dedicates gold to crash victim Alexis Vastine

Taekwondo champion Gwladys Epangue dedicates her win to French boxer Alexis Vastine, who was killed in a helicopter crash earlier this year.

Taekwondo gold medallist Gwladys Epangue has dedicated her win at the European Games in Baku to fellow French athlete Alexis Vastine, who died in a helicopter crash earlier this year.

The Olympic bronze medal-winning boxer was one of three French athletes killed in the crash while filming a reality TV show in Argentina.

After beating Serbia's Milica Mandic in the final of the women's +67kg competition, Epangue told reporters: "I want to dedicate my medal to my family and friends and coach, but also to my special friend who died two months ago. I lost a friend who left us in Argentina.

"History is what made me want to win today. It is the first European Games and I wanted to make history. The big names were here and it is great to win against them."

A total of 10 people were killed in the crash, including sailor Florence Arthaud and three-time Olympic swimming medallist Camille Muffat.
