Great Britain's Francesca Jones advances to her first-ever WTA Tour final at the Copa Colsanitas with a 6-4 6-2 win over Brazil's Laura Pigossi.

Great Britain's Francesca Jones continued her outstanding run at the Copa Colsanitas with a straight-sets win over Brazil's Laura Pigossi to advance to her first WTA Tour semi-final.

The world number 817 - taking on a player ranked 716 places higher than her - produced a dazzling array of shots throughout the match to seal a 6-4 6-2 win in one hour and 33 minutes.

Double faults had been the theme for Jones in Bogota so far, and two in a row brought up an early break opportunity in the third game for Pigossi, which she took as the Brit netted a volley.

However, Jones broke straight back for 2-2 as Pigossi netted a forehand, and the pair traded two more breaks in the seventh and eighth games during a tightly-contested battle.

The Briton dug deep to bring up two break points in the 10th game, and Pigossi's lob landed just beyond the baseline to hand Jones - who noticeably cut out her serving errors significantly - a deserved 1-0 lead.

Pigossi threatened to take the match to the distance with another early break in the second set, but a glut of eye-catching down-the-line forehands proved fruitless for the Brazilian, as Jones remarkably won five games on the trot to seal a spot in the final four.

Jones now faces a tantalising showdown with German second seed and Wimbledon semi-finalist Tatjana Maria for a spot in the final against either Sara Sorribes Tormo or Kamilla Rakhimova.
