German pair secure luge gold

Tobias Arlt and Tobias Wendl win the gold medal for Germany in the men's doubles luge at the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Germany's Tobias Arlt and Tobias Wendl have won gold in the men's doubles luge at the Winter Olympics this afternoon.

The pair secured victory by a margin of 0.522 seconds ahead of Austria's Andreas Linger and Wolfgang Linger, who won gold at the 2006 and 2010 Games but could only take silver this time around.

Latvian brothers Andris Sics and Juris Sics, who won silver in Vancouver four years ago, claimed the bronze medal with a total time of 1:39.790, which was 0.857 off the pace of Arlt and Wendl.

Germany have now claimed three luge golds at the Sochi Games, after Felix Loch's success in the individual men's event and Natalie Geisenberger's gold in the women's luge.
