Australia win the second Ashes Test match with England by 275 runs, the inevitable being delayed by Jos Buttler's defiance throughout the final day in Adelaide.

Australia have taken a 2-0 lead in the Ashes series with a 275-run victory over England in Adelaide.

Starting the final day on 82-4, England's target of 468 was a moot point, the sole focus of the middle-order being on an unlikely survival act on a fifth-day pitch.

Ollie Pope offered no resilience, out for just four off seven balls, and Ben Stokes was eventually dismissed for a 12-ball 77 to leave England on 105-6.

However, Jos Buttler, motivated to make up for a couple of costly errors behind the stumps, and Chris Woakes lasted 31 overs before the latter departed for 44.

Buttler made it to tea having contributed a knock of 26 which had lasted more than four hours, but he, quite unbelievably, lost his wicket by treading on his stumps in the early stages of the final session, the first dismissal of that kind in the Ashes since 2008.

With Stuart Broad and James Anderson at the crease, the writing was on the wall, and Jhye Richardson completed figures of 5-43 by getting rid of Anderson for two, England being bowled out for 192 in the process.
