GB's dressage team forced to change travel plans due to migrant crisis

Great Britain's dressage team are forced to change their travel arrangements to Germany for the European Championships due to the migrant crisis.

Great Britain's dressage team have been forced to re-organise their travel arrangements due to the ongoing migrant crisis in Calais.

The competitors' horses were due to travel through the Channel Tunnel on their way to Aachen in Germany for the European Championships, but due to the thousands of migrants trying to get into the UK, there have been huge disruptions.

Now, GB's riders, who include Olympic champion Carl Hester, will fly to Germany, while the horses will travel to the Hook of Holland via Harwich.

"It's a little bit annoying," Hester told BBC Radio Guernsey. "From my home to Aachen is a 12-hour drive for the horses, which is quite a long time to be stuck in a horsebox where they can't move around, and we like to limit that as much as possible."

Hester is part of a team that includes Charlotte Dujardin, Michael Eilberg and Fiona Bigwood.
