Barcelona are reportedly keeping a close eye on Flamengo starlet Natan, but the defender's £60m release clause could prove to be an issue.

Barcelona are closely monitoring the progress of young Brazilian defender Natan, according to a report.

The 20-year-old completed a loan move to Red Bull Bragantino just last week, but he has already made a positive impression with Serie A side Flamengo, making 14 top-flight appearances for the club since September.

Natan only appeared in one of Flamengo's last 11 league games before signing for Bragantino on a temporary basis, but he has nevertheless caught the eye with his assured performances in the heart of defence.

According to Sport, Barca have sent scouts to keep an eye on Natan's development, and the Blaugrana have been impressed by the young defender, but his release clause could prove to be a problem.

The report indicates that the 6ft 2in defender possesses a £60m buyout clause in his Flamengo contract, so the cash-strapped Catalans could struggle to fund a move as they prioritise contract extensions for Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembele.

Natan's existing deal at Flamengo does not expire until 2024, and his solitary goal for the club came in October's 5-1 thrashing of Corinthians.
