Bastia launch appeal against Nantes defeat

Bastia want their 2-0 defeat at Nantes overturned after discovering that midfielder Abdoulaye Toure should have been suspended for the Ligue 1 opener.

Bastia have today launched an appeal in a bid to have last weekend's 2-0 defeat at Nantes overturned, citing the use of an ineligible player by the home side.

The Corsican club believe that Nantes midfielder Abdoulaye Toure, who came on as a substitute in the second half on Sunday, should have been suspended for the Ligue 1 opener.

Toure picked up a one-match ban last season following an accumulation of bookings in all competitions, including yellow cards picked up at youth and reserve level.

In an official statement on their website released this evening Bastia have confirmed that they want the matter investigated, with a view to having the result changed.

The short statement read: "Following various reports published today in various media, the Sporting Club de Bastia confirms that challenged before the competent committee participation player Abdoulaye Toure, came in the 67th minute in the match of the first day of Ligue 1."

Nantes could now lose the three points picked up on their return to the French top flight, with a fine or points deduction among the sanctions available if found guilty.
