Wolverhampton Wanderers will be bidding to equal a 54-year streak when they play host to Chelsea in the Premier League on Christmas Eve.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will hope to equal a 54-year-old run when they square off against Chelsea on Christmas Eve.

Gary O'Neil's side are returning to action for the first time since they were defeated 3-0 by West Ham United at the London Stadium on December 17.

That result represented Wolves' fourth away loss in succession in the Premier League, leaving them in 13th position in the standings ahead of Saturday's and Sunday's fixtures.

However, it has been a different story at Molineux where Wolves have impressively responded to losing their opening two home fixtures of the season to put together a six-game undefeated streak.

Wins have been recorded over Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley, while draws have been posted versus Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.

Most notably in comparison to last season, Wolves have scored goals on a regular basis, with the opening fixture at Manchester United and last weekend's capitulation versus the Hammers representing the only two occasions where they have failed to find the back of the net.

That means that Wolves have scored in each of their opening eight top-flight encounters at Molineux, but their impressive streak at their home ground runs well into last season.

Should Wolves score against Chelsea on Sunday, it will mark the 16th successive Premier League match where they have breached the opposition's defence, equalling a 16-game run that was last registered in 1969-70.

Furthermore, Wolves boast an imposing recent record over London opposition at Molineux, prevailing six consecutive times and conceding just once during that streak.

At the same time, Chelsea make the trip to the West Midlands having failed to prevail on their last three visits to Molineux, losing last year's equivalent in April by a 1-0 scoreline.

There are just three points separating the two clubs in the standings, Chelsea currently occupying 10th spot with Wolves in 13th, 10 points clear of the relegation zone.
