Colombia manager Jose Pekerman dedicates his side's 3-0 win against Poland to midfielder Carlos Sanchez, who received death threats following his red card against Japan.

Colombia boss Jose Pekerman has dedicated his side's 3-0 win against Poland to midfielder Carlos Sanchez.

Goals from Yerry Mina, Radamel Falcao and Juan Cuadrado ensured that Poland were knocked out of the World Cup on Sunday evening, the result following their 2-1 defeat to Japan earlier this week.

Sanchez was sent off for Colombia in their first match against Japan just three minutes in, leaving the former Aston Villa midfielder exposed to a series of online death threats from social media users.

"This victory is dedicated to Carlos Sanchez," Pekerman told reporters.

"He has had a very hard time over these last few days. We achieved this win and I wanted to share it with him, I'm expressing it personally but all the squad feel it."

The death threats were a reminder to many of the disturbing murder of former Colombia defender Andres Escobar, who was killed days after scoring an own goal at the 1994 World Cup.
