Empoli play host to Hellas Verona in gameweek one of the new Serie A season at Stadio Carlo Castellani on Saturday.

The Azzurri ended in the league's bottom seven last term, while Verona needed a relegation playoff to stay in the division.

The last three Serie A meetings between Empoli and Verona have ended 1-1, and a fourth draw in succession could be in the offing.

Frosinone vs. Napoli (Saturday, 5.30pm)

Beginning the defence of their Scudetto in Saturday's Serie A opener, reigning champions Napoli start the 2023-24 season at promoted Frosinone.

While the hosts have returned to Italy's top flight for the third time in 10 years, their first visitors stormed to the title last term; ending 33 years of hurt.

We say: Frosinone 0-2 Napoli

Both clubs had the best defensive records in their respective divisions last season, but Frosinone's stats will be far harder to maintain this year. Although Napoli must adapt to life without their Scudetto-winning coach, they can get off to a winning start against promoted opponents who may need some time to settle back into Serie A.

Genoa vs. Fiorentina (Saturday, 7.45pm)

Newly-promoted Genoa begin their Serie A campaign against Europa Conference League finalists Fiorentina at Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Saturday.

Alberto Gilardino's team finished second in Serie B last term, while the Viola ended eighth in the top flight in 2022-23.

We say: Genoa 1-1 Fiorentina

Even though Genoa's winning run could end against Fiorentina, Gilardino's men playing out a score draw with Italiano's team is the likely outcome this weekend.

Inter Milan vs. Monza (Saturday, 7.45pm)

Two months on from their Champions League final heartbreak, Inter Milan return to competitive action on Saturday evening, when they host Monza at San Siro.

Inter kick off a fresh Serie A season aiming to improve on an inconsistent 2022-23 campaign, in which they also lifted two trophies and came so close to glory on the European stage.

We say: Inter Milan 2-1 Monza

Inter have scored freely throughout pre-season and will be determined not to start their Serie A campaign slowly, having been left lagging behind last year. Although Monza are well-organised and boast a settled squad, avoiding defeat on the opening day may just prove beyond them at San Siro.
