Nick Matthew pleased to come through Alan Clyne test

Team England's Nick Matthew reveals that he was pleased to come through the test of Scotland's Alan Clyne to book his place in the quarter-finals at the Commonwealth Games.

Team England squash player Nick Matthew believes that his victory over Scotland's Alan Clyne will stand him in good stead for the rest of the Commonwealth Games.

The 2010 gold medal winner claimed victory over the Scot in straight sets, although Clyne staged a revival in the third to pull within two points. However, Matthew had enough quality to see off the challenge.

He told reporters: "I got the job one. He was coming back at the end there, he saved his best till last so I'm pleased.

"I've not had a match of that quality for a good while, our season ended in May so it's been a while since our last real game in front of a crowd like that.

"That's going to stand me in good stead for the rest of the tournament."

Matthew will now face Guernsey's Chris Simpson in the quarter-finals at the Games.
