Laura Robson to take on Kirsten Flipkens in Australian Open

British number one Laura Robson will begin her Australian Open campaign against Kirsten Flipkens.

Laura Robson has been drawn against Kirsten Flipkens in the first round of the Australian Open.

The British number one heads into the tournament ranked 46th in the world, while her opponent will be the favourite to progress, lying in 19th.

Fellow Britons Johanna Konta and Heather Watson are still involved in the qualifying rounds.

Australia's Ashleigh Barty was handed a horror opener, drawing world number one Serena Williams, while world number two Agnieszka Radwanska will face Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva.

Serena's sister Venus Williams was drawn against Russian Ekaterina Makarova and last year's runner-up Li Na will take on a qualifier.

World number three Maria Sharapova will play America's Bethanie Mattek-Sands - ranked 22nd in the world - for a place in round two.
