Millie Gibson will reportedly leave Doctor Who in 2025, with Varada Sethu taking over as a new companion.

Millie Gibson will leave Doctor Who several episodes into her second series, according to a report.

The actress made her debut as new companion Ruby Sunday in the recent Christmas special, appearing alongside Ncuti Gatwa, who has taken over from David Tennant as The Doctor.

The pair have filmed a full eight-episode series - to air from May - and began working on the 2025 main series towards the end of last year.

According to The Mirror, however, Gibson will only appear in three episodes of the second series and will also not feature in the 2024 Christmas special.

The newspaper says that showrunner Russell T Davies will 'wrap up' Ruby Sunday's story in a standalone episode, with Andor actress Varada Sethu then joining Gatwa as the new companion.

"Millie Gibson has all but left now and there's a brand new companion, which is really exciting," a source said. "Russell is keeping things moving and isn't letting the grass grow, that's for sure."

They added: "Varada is a real gem, Russell was just blown away by her talent. The cast and crew have really warmed to her and he's sure the fans will too."

The BBC has yet to comment on the report.
