Freiburg too good for 1860 Munich in DFB-Pokal second round

Admir Mehmedi nets a hat-trick as Freiburg beat 1860 Munich 5-2 to reach the third round of the DFB-Pokal.

Admir Mehmedi scored a hat-trick as Bundesliga side Freiburg reached the third round of the DFB-Pokal by overcoming 1860 Munich 5-2 at the Allianz-Arena this evening.

1860, who are bottom of the German second tier, took a surprise lead on the quarter-hour mark when Valdet Rama fired home from Daniel Adlung's headed knockdown.

Freiburg hit back 10 minutes later through Sebastian Freis, who poked home Sebastian Kerk's set piece from close range.

1860 were well in the game at half time but then conceded two quick goals shortly after the hour mark to fall two behind.

Both were scored by Mehmedi, who first finished off a fast break before heading home a Freis cross from close range.

Rubin Okotie halved the deficit five minutes later, but it wouldn't spark a fightback from the hosts as they let in two more goals before the finish.

Jonathan Schmid got his name on the scoresheet in the 84th minute before Mehmedi completed his hat-trick in the last minute of normal time.
