Preview: Olympiacos vs. Bayern Munich - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Champions League clash between Olympiacos and Bayern Munich, including predictions, team news and lineups.

Olympiacos welcome Bayern Munich to Greece on Tuesday night looking for their first win in this year's Champions League group stage.

The Greek side are currently third in Group B with just one point from their opening two matches, while Niko Kovac's Bayern are sitting pretty in first with six points in the bag and 10 goals already scored in this competition.

Pedro Martins' Olympiacos picked up a 2-1 win over OFI Crete on Saturday to maintain their unbeaten start to the league season in Greece and give them some momentum heading into Tuesday.

While the Evangelos Marinakis-owned club started the group stage well by salvaging a draw against Tottenham Hotspur, they were poor last time round, squandering a lead as they lost 3-1 against Red Star Belgrade.

Yassine Benzia was sent off in that game and is therefore suspended for Tuesday, when Olympiacos are likely to try and keep things tight, work a low block and look to counter in the second half with the pace of Daniel Podence and forwards Youssef El Arabi and Miguel Guerrero.

These two have only been drawn together in the Champions League once before back in 2015 and in that season Bayern won both games fairly comfortably, scoring seven goals across the two fixtures.

Although Bayern grabbed the headlines three weeks ago when they put seven past Tottenham, they have failed to win in their two subsequent BundesligA games.

Most recently they were held to a draw by Augsburg, who scored in the opening minute and then pegged the defending champions back in injury time through Icelandic striker Alfred Finnbogason.

Perhaps more frustrating than the dropped points on Saturday was the injury suffered by Niklas Sule, who looks set to miss several months after rupturing his ACL.

His absence is unlikely to alter the way Bayern set up or play, with Kovac as always emphasising movement, passing and a system that creates several chances for Robert Lewandowski.

The star of their game with Tottenham was former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry, who scored four, and the 24-year-old will be looking to add to his tally on Tuesday night from the left hand side.

In addition to Benzia's suspension, Olympiacos will also be without left-back Konstantinos Tsimikas for Tuesday's game, with Leonardo Koutris the obvious candidate to replace him.

Although he played up front on Saturday, bagging a brace in the process, Algerian forward Hillal Soudani is likely to start out wide against Bayern, allowing El Arabi to come back into the side up front.

Meanwhile for Bayern, Sule joins midfielder Mickael Cuisance and striker Jann-Fiete Arp on the treatment table in Bavaria.

With David Alaba now fit, Kovac is likely to start Javi Martinez and Lucas Hernandez as his centre-back pairing, with the Austrian on the left and Joshua Kimmich on the right.

Corentin Tolisso could come in to partner Thiago at the base of midfield, while veteran schemer Thomas Muller is set to replace Phillipe Coutinho just behind the striker as the Brazilian is still working towards full fitness.

Olympiacos possible starting lineup:
Sa; Torosidis, Semedo, Papadopoulos, Koutris; Podence, Guilherme, Gaspar, Soudani; Guerrero, El Arabi

Bayern Munich possible starting lineup:
Neuer; Kimmich, Hernandez, Martinez, Alaba; Thiago, Tolisso; Coman, Muller, Gnabry; Lewandowski

We say: Olympiacos 0-3 Bayern Munich

Although Bayern have stuttered a bit in the league recently, Olympiacos' collapse against Red Star suggests that the German champions should record a fairly routine win on Tuesday evening.
