Preview: Everton Ladies vs. West Ham United Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Everton Ladies and West Ham United Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Everton Ladies will attempt to end a four-game losing run in the Women's Super League when they play host to West Ham United Women on Sunday.

The Hammers, meanwhile, will have the chance to record a third consecutive victory after beating Bristol City and Arsenal in their last two outings.

Having lost each of their last four matches, Everton are currently languishing in 11th position and five points above the relegation place.

While those results would have disappointed Brian Sorensen, the Everton boss may be the first to point out that three of those four defeats took place against teams in the top three.

The Toffees managed to restore some confidence with a resounding 7-1 victory over third-tier Nottingham Forest in last Sunday's FA Cup fifth-round tie.

After setting up a difficult quarter-final clash with Chelsea, Sorensen's side will now turn their focus to Sunday's fixture at Walton Hall Park, where they will attempt to claim their first home league win of the season.

The Toffees may have lost five of their six home league games this term (D1), but they could be relishing the chance to face West Ham after winning the last two head-to-head meetings.

West Ham were not in action last weekend after being eliminated by Chelsea in the FA Cup fourth round, ensuring that the Hammers had plenty of time to reflect upon their first-ever WSL victory over Arsenal in their most recent outing on February 4.

Rehanne Skinner's side fell behind in the 43rd minute, but they produced a stunning turnaround, with Vivianne Asseyi netting a penalty before Hawa Cissoko scored what proved to be the winning goal in a memorable game for the Hammers.

Having claimed back-to-back victories, West Ham have moved six points clear of basement side Bristol City, while they have also climbed above Brighton and Everton on goal difference.

The Hammers now have the chance to record three consecutive top-flight victories for the first time since achieving the feat across November and December in 2018.

That was also the year when West Ham collected their most recent away win over Everton, having failed to pick up a victory in any of their last three away meetings with the Toffees (D1, L2).

Team News

Everton are still unable to call upon the injured quartet of Emily Ramsey, Katrine Veje, Sara Holmgaard and Karen Holmgaard.

The Toffees are also hoping that defender Elise Stenevik can recover from illness in time to take her place in the side for Sunday's contest.

Heather Payne and Rikke Madsen could both be recalled to the starting lineup after they dropped down to the bench for the recent FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest.

As for the Hammers, they are expected to be without the services of midfielder Abbey-Leigh Stringer, who has missed the last two matches through injury.

Jess Ziu is also a doubt for Sunday's away trip after the 21-year-old was forced off in the first half of the 2-1 win over Arsenal.

Asseyi will be looking to continue her fine run of form after scoring four times in her last five matches in all competitions.

Everton Ladies possible starting lineup:
Brosnan; Vanhaevermaet, Finnigan, Stenevik; Payne, Kuhl, Galli, Wheeler; Madsen, Bissell; Snoeijs

West Ham United Women possible starting lineup:
Arnold; Cissoko, Tysiak, Zadorsky; Shimizu, Hayashi, Gorry, Snerle, Smith; Asseyi, Ueki

We say: Everton Ladies 1-2 West Ham United Women

Everton have lost five of their six home league games this season, and we think that they could fall to another home defeat against a West Ham side who will be full of confidence after claiming consecutive victories in the WSL.
