Valencia play out goalless draw with Gimnastic

Valencia draw with Gimnastic in the Copa del Rey, despite finishing the match with 10 men.

Valencia have been held to a 0-0 draw by Gimnastic in their Copa del Rey last-32 first-leg match.

Both sides demonstrated their attacking intent early on, but Vicente Moreno's men had the best chance of the opening stages when Lago Junior struck just wide after making space on the edge of the box.

Los Che then enjoyed a spell of possession, but David Mateos Rocha crashed his free kick against the crossbar for the home side.

Miroslav Djukic's team saw a Jonas header go over the crossbar as they tried to push their opponents back.

However, Gimnastic again came forward. Lago clipped the ball over the head of Diego Alves and it appeared to be going in before Jeremy Mathieu got back to clear off the line.

Chances continued to flow without either team breaking the deadlock. This time Tomeu Naval saved Sofiane Feghouli's curling effort.

After the break Valencia had the first opportunity as Andres Guardado delivered a cross to the back post, but Sergio Canales was unable to reach it.

Guardado showed his skill again, crossing the ball to Canales, who saw his effort saved by Naval.

Both teams had half-chances as the second half progressed, but Valencia were reduced to 10 men when Jonas received his second yellow card of the match.
