Leicester City storm back to beat Birmingham City

Leicester City overturn a two-goal half-time deficit to beat Birmingham City 3-2 at St Andrew's.

Leicester City have fought back from two goals behind to record a 3-2 victory at Birmingham City.

During the early stages, Leicester's Danny Drinkwater and Birmingham's David Cotterill both saw strikes fizz past the woodwork, before Foxes forward Jamie Vardy saw a volley saved by Tomasz Kuszczak.

However, midway through the half, Birmingham took the lead in fine style when Cotterill fired an unstoppable free kick into the top corner of Kasper Schmeichel's net.

A minute later, the Championship outfit doubled their advantage through highly-rated Demarai Gray, who cut inside from the left flank before driving a thunderous effort into the top corner.

Vardy had a couple of openings during the closing stages of the first half without troubling Kuszczak's goal, but 14 minutes into the second period, Leicester pulled a goal back when Robert Huth was well placed to convert a Marc Albrighton corner.

With 14 minutes left, Drinkwater found an equaliser for the Foxes by converting a rebound after Riyad Mahrez had hit the post with a free kick, but the drama at St Andrew's was not over.

Seven minutes later, Mahrez provided the cross for Shinji Okazaki to send a diving header into the net to earn a morale-boosting triumph for Claudio Ranieri's side ahead of the new campaign.
