FIFA ethics committee recommends nine-year Jerome Valcke ban

FIFA's ethics committee recommends that suspended secretary general Jerome Valcke be handed a nine-year ban from all football-related activities.

FIFA's ethics committee has recommended that suspended secretary general Jerome Valcke should be handed a nine-year ban from all football-related activities.

The Frenchman has been embroiled in the corruption scandal that has rocked world football's governing body in the last few months, with FIFA president Sepp Blatter and his UEFA counterpart Michel Platini already having been handed eight-year bans.

The same committee, chaired by Hans-Joachim Eckert, has now called for an even longer suspension for Valcke, in addition to a fine of 100,000 Swiss francs (£67,400) for alleged "misuse of expenses and other infringements of FIFA's rules and regulations".

"In his final report, the chairman of the investigatory chamber of the Ethics Committee recommended imposing a sanction of a nine-year ban and a fine of CHF 100,000 on Mr Valcke," read a FIFA statement.

The committee has also requested a 45-day extension to Valcke's original 90-day ban, which is due to expire at midnight tonight.
