Late Ali Crawford strike gives Hamilton Academical win

Ali Crawford scores in the final 10 minutes to give Hamilton Academical a 1-0 win over St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.

A late goal from Ali Crawford has given Hamilton Academical a 1-0 win in their final Scottish Premiership game of the season against St Mirren this afternoon.

The home side were on the attack early on as Dougie Imrie unleashed a long-range strike inside the opening five minutes, but Marian Kello made the save.

St Mirren soon started to look lively down the other end as Jack Baird rose highest in a bid to convert from a corner, but his header went just wide of the right post.

The visitors came closer still just before the half-hour mark as Stephen Mallan unleashed a powerful free kick from 25 yards out, after Sean Kelly had been brought down, but his curling effort struck the crossbar.

Hamilton finished the first half strongly, pushing for an opening goal, but Jesus Garcia Tena was denied by the woodwork, before Crawford saw two efforts saved in quick succession.

Lucas had a chance to open the scoring for the home side at the start of the second half as he attempted to head in from a corner, but was unable to squeeze it past the keeper.

Hamilton continued to look the more likely when Steve Boyd unleashed a low strike from the edge of the box, only to force a diving save from the keeper.

The hosts did take the lead a couple of minutes later as Imrie sent a high ball forward to set up Crawford, leaving the striker to pick out the bottom corner from 20 yards out.

Louis Longridge could have put the win beyond doubt with just a couple of minutes to go, but his shot was pushed around the post.

The win leaves Hamilton comfortably at the top of the bottom half of the post-split table, while St Mirren finish six points adrift at the bottom.
