Munster beat Gloucester Rugby to extend lead

Munster beat Gloucester in the Heineken Cup to extend their lead at the top of Pool 1.

Munster have extended their lead at the top of Pool 1 in the Heineken Cup with a convincing 20-7 win over Gloucester Rugby at Kingsholm.

It was a nervy opening 20 minutes with neither side able to take control, although Billy Twelvetrees had the chance with a penalty but missed his kick.

The visiting Munster took advantage of the miss and went ahead with a penalty from Ian Keatley after 23 minutes, before Keith Earls went over for a try with eight minutes left of the first half. Keatley completed the conversion for what looked to be a solid half-time lead.

However, a last-gasp try from Charlie Sharples was converted by Freddie Burns to set up an intriguing second 40 minutes.

It took another 20 minutes, but the decisive try came from Peter O'Mahony with Keatley's extras putting his side 10 up. A final penalty from the kicker completed a strong second half.
