Atletico Madrid ease past Sevilla

Atletico Madrid move up to second in the La Liga table courtesy of a 4-0 win over Sevilla at the Vicente Calderon.

Atletico Madrid have continued their unbeaten start to the La Liga season by beating Sevilla 4-0 at the Vicente Calderon this evening.

The hosts took the lead in the 19th minute when Koke's strike from the edge of the box took a deflection and looped into the far corner.

Atletico continued to dominate the match and Gabi saw a header tipped over the bar by Beto.

With three minutes of the first half left to play the hosts scored their second of the match as Saul Niguez headed in Miranda's cross from close range.

On the hour mark Stephane Mbia had a chance to pull a goal back for Sevilla, but following a scramble inside the box he could only direct a header over the bar.

Mario Mandzukic almost found the net moments later, but his header from Juanfran's cross went just wide of the post.

Atletico looked the more likely of the two sides to score the next goal and Arda Turan saw his half-volley from outside the box pushed behind by Beto.

In the 83rd minute Raul Garcia scored Atletico's third of the evening from the penalty spot, after Antoine Griezmann had been hacked down inside the box by Diogo Figueiras.

With a minute left to play Raul Jimenez headed in from Koke's free kick to put the seal on a comfortable night for the home side.
