Preview: Bristol City vs. Luton Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Championship clash between Bristol City and Luton Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Round four of the 2022-23 EFL Championship season sees Bristol City and Luton Town do battle at Ashton Gate on Tuesday night.

Both teams are still yet to pick up their first league wins this term, and they will be keen to come away with all three points here.

Bristol City had to settle for a share of the spoils following a 1-1 draw in their Saturday lunchtime encounter against Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.

Nigel Pearson's men took the lead early on courtesy of Andreas Weimann before Will Keane levelled matters midway through the second period.

The Cider Army are in 23rd place in the EFL Championship standings, ahead of bottom club Norwich City only by the virtue of having scored more goals.

Coming up next is the challenge of an opposing outfit who have only lost one of the most recent 13 meetings across all competitions between the teams over the last two decades.

Off the back of seeing an eight-game home unbeaten run come to an end in their last outing on home turf, Tuesday's visitors will be keen to bounce back in front of their supporters here.

Luton Town fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Preston North End when the two sides went head-to-head at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.

Nathan Jones conceded an 18th-minute opener to Brad Potts, and that turned to be the all-important moment in a keenly-contested affair.

With just two points amassed from their opening three league games, the Hatters are 21st in the standings at the moment, ahead of the drop zone only by one point.

However, Tuesday's visitors have won five of their last six games away from home and will be aiming to kickstart their league campaign with yet another victory on the road.

Team News

The duo of Nathan Baker and Ayman Benarous remain on the sidelines for Bristol City, while Tomas Kalas also misses out through injury.

Tuesday's hosts are also set to be without the services of Antoine Semenyo and Matthew James, who continue to nurse knee and muscle problems respectively.

Thirty-one-year-old Andreas Weimann will be aiming to score in a fifth consecutive game here, and he is definitely one to keep an eye on.

Luton's Alfie Doughty and Fred Onyedinma are not expected to play any part in this one, although the former is closing in on a return to action.

Carlos Mendes Gomes is a huge doubt for the away side after the Spaniard came off in the 3-3 EFL Cup loss to Newport City last Tuesday.

Bristol City possible starting lineup:
Bentley; Atkinson, Naismith, Vyner; Dasilva, Williams, Conway, Sykes; Scott, Martin, Weimann

Luton Town possible starting lineup:
Horvath; Burke, Bradley, Potts; Bree, Campbell, Clark, Bell; Freeman, Morris, Adebayo

We say: Bristol City 1-1 Luton Town

With both teams low on confidence heading into this one, we expect a nervy and tense affair with the teams cancelling each other out and settling for a point apiece at the end of the 90 minutes.
